4000K VS 5000K LED Color Temperature

To be honest, color temperature is driven based on its application and backed by personal preferences. The color temperature that I might like may not be a good fit for you. Selecting color temperature might have some rules but don’t let that thing confine you from using your preferred color.

4000k can be taken as a transitional color temperature which turns the warmer yellow of 3000K into a cool white. Moreover, at around 5000K one can see the cool white color temperature in the light. So that was a simple difference. Here we gonna be presenting some test reports done by Lighting Acces. They bought two sets of LED light bulbs and started their test. Their main focus was to find which one between 4000K and 5000K will be less white. They tested 4000K in the first round and then 5000K in the second. The test report has been presented below.

Testing Of 4000K and 5000K

They used a 4000k, 750 lumen, 60 Watt equivalent 9watt LED bulb. So they could see that the 4000K was less cool than 5000K. 

So for ease, I am embedding the two pictures. One can see the difference when looking at the object around the light itself. But the color temperature is so close that it is impossible to tell by seeing through the human eye. Lastly, they concluded that 4000K looks quite universal than 5000K. 

For that purpose, they used 500K, 750 lumens, 60 Watt Equivalent 9 Watt LED bulb. They found that the 5000K bulb was slightly more cool than the 4000K bulb. . They noticed it in the above-shown test photos where there is a cool white reflection. 

Finally, they concluded that 5000K is better for kitchen applications or any type of task lighting area. However, this might depend on lots of design and features/applications. 

What Is The Difference Between 4000K and 5000K Lighting? 

Summarizing in a simple statement, 4000K is a bit less cool (white) than a 5000K light. However, both 4000K and 5000K are the beginning of the white tones in the kelvin scale which ranges from 1000K to 10000K.

Lumens are something that measures the brightness of a light. The higher the number the brighter will be the light. But the more important thing you missed is the wattage of the light. The wattage is something that determines the lumens and then lumens determine the brightness. Of the light. 

Both 4000K and 5000K can be used in various wattages ranging from 60 watts to 100 watts. Though the lumen, which measures the degree of brightness, is different for each. But the fact is a 100-watt LED light bulb in 5000K and 4000K can have the same lumens that are 1500. 

Similarly, a 60-watt LED light bulb in 5000K and 4000k will have the same lumens (i.e 750). 

Is 4000K Too Bright?

Talking from the overall kelvin scale, 4000K is not too bright, but the thing is it depends on the application of the light and your personal preferences. 

One can use 4000K on bathrooms, kitchens, and garages. But the thing is if your cabinetry has white color, cool color temperatures can appear too bright but still it’s your personal preference to either choose it or not. 

4000K VS 5000K for Kitchens

Both 4000K and 5000K can be a good fit for the kitchen. However, it depends on the design of your kitchen or the color of your cabinetry. 

5000K could be a perfect fit for kitchens with white cabinetry and also with the modern to traditional style. On the other hand, 4000K starts to cross over into a warmer tone and may change the white color into pink. 

One can have 3000K lights if they have got a darker kitchen with traditional wood color cabinets. Note that it is important to use kelvin temperature within the kitchen rather than using warm white, neutral, or cool white terminology. 

In a Kelvin scale, which ranges between 1000K to 10000K color temperature is the rating a color gets. The higher the kelvin scale the color is more white and blue and if the kelvin scale is low then the color becomes orange and red. 

So as mentioned earlier these are all recommendations and suggestions to get you an idea. However, you can go for your preferred light which is suitable for your home.
